IT’S ALL ABOUT THE MEAT AT DISTRICT 10 NOW OPEN AT SUNTEC CITY
By Jason Paul
The latest outlet of the District 10 chain is now open at Suntec City. This is the 4th outlet in Singapore, and follows in the footsteps of the bar/bistro concept of the other outlets at UE Square, Star Vista and Clarke Quay.
There is an open-concept bar facing the Fountain of Wealth which serves drinks and snacks, and a fairly compact indoor dining area with a relaxed and unpretentious ambience, where the contemporary look is complemented with an impressive array of butchery paraphernalia – a nod towards the focus of this bistro.
Whilst maintaining a common thread of modern European cuisine, quality food and affordable drinks, each of the District 10 bar/restaurants has its own unique identity. In the case of the Suntec outlet, it’s all about the meat.
The restaurant prides itself on the quality of its meats, and the particular draw is its dry-aged prime cuts, which are cooked over charcoal in custom-built vertical grills (pictured above), that allow the thick cuts of meat to cook through evenly. The dry-aging process means that the meat remains tender and succulent, but with little bloodiness, even when cooked rare.
We went along to District 10 recently, where Italian chef/owner Luca Pezzera, explained the dry-aging process and cooked for us two huge slabs of 45 days home dry aged corn fed US Prime OP Rib and 45 days corn fed dry aged US Prime Traditional Fiorentina steak. The Fiorentina steak was especially good with its melt-in-the-mouth short loin.
Before tasting the meats, we enjoyed a Fruits of Angel cocktail, which is a refreshing blend of Plantation Original Dark rum, homemade papaya syrup, fresh lemon juice, and thyme. We were also served entrees of cured ham, vitello tonnato (thinly sliced roasted veal loin with light tuna sauce) pictured above.
Puglia burratina with organic cherry tomato-basil bruschetta, and a Butter lettuce salad with pancetta, hazelnut, Gorgonzola and egg. The cured ham was excellent.
To round things off, we enjoyed very much a double espresso pannacotta with vanilla sauce, and a bitter chocolate–marshmallow fluff with caramelized banana.
We would recommend District 10 at Suntec for after-work drinks, corporate entertaining and meat-lovers. But probably better to avoid if you like your steaks well done, as we suspect you may be politely escorted from the premises!
District 10 at Suntec City Tower 2, 3 Temasek Boulevard is open daily from 11.30am to 11pm.
